IFTARS and the TANTRUM for a STEAK

September 28, 2008

BITS managed an iftar at BBQ (though the entry of outsiders for strictly prohibitted, which included alumni). ESF and BASC did theirs at Arena. Commendable efforts in terms that they managed to do it quickly. A definite respite from the usual Rodale and IBA centric events. The student councillors also visited the events. though the tantrum at ESF by S.M. Saeed was childish and unwarranted. As student councillors they need to realize that the student body gets a certain level of indenpendence so that they learn to be responsible. So if the councilors are present it should be to look not to fix problems. and word of advice to the wise. if you want a steak for free, dont throw a tantrum. it doesnt look reflect good on IBA. we are looking for long term relationships with places like Arena and BBQ tonite so we dont and i repeat we dont want to throw tantrums there. They will accomodate us, because we are a lot of people and they need business too. so let it be a mutually beneficial relationship. not of the angry guests.

Chopaal Being Used by BITS

September 14, 2008

Bits is using Chopaal! Great initiative. It’ll keep everyone in the loop. your challenge should be to get everyone to register for it asap. so from the poster being put up i would suggest the student council should go to every class just like they did in electioning and have everyone have themseleves register for Chopaal.

and on part of LUMS, *standing ovation* an awesome job guys

Plans arent final but its on June 22, 2008. Sorry to all those who cant make it”   – read something like this,  the cell phone message.

Good Job Haider.  hope it turns out well

The student body budget problem

April 17, 2008

The student bodies went short on fund as the accounts department could not find the document which stated that the funds should be released to the student bodies in three installments 40-30-30, which was signed by the board. The old document was found, which stated that the student bodies funds would be released in two installments  50-50 . the second installment after external audit. So given this very new development, the student bodies only have 10% more funds with them.

Chances for farewell are bleak. very.

Seems like another conspiracy to halt events given that the elections were delayed, the societies were delayed, all events weren’t approved till very late, problems in every event were created, events were slaughtered and canceled at whim. but this is not a part of that. its slightly different.

the accounts dept has tried to contact Shahid mir to find a solution to the problem but he is unreachable to everyone. like even the accounts dept. Shahid mir also has not forwarded the copy of the constitution to the students nor has he oriented the student body members on how to conduct events. they have learnt on thier own and thru fines.

Event Slaughter

April 14, 2008

the all hyped up event of bake sale for which the CWS society had been working so hard for the past few weeks was slaughtered. yes, it was very bloody yellow and green spilt on the floor. The remains (read chairs and tables) left carelessly from the previous night’s event caused a lot of problems to the affluent class (read us) while we were parking our cars. The yellow and green tent at the back also took up a lot of space ( the contractor’s container and his office dont occupy space and hence dont take up parking space ).

the students had booked stalls and had committed donations to the needy and were ready to start off a smashing bake sale with a lot of people dressed up too. but You-Know-Who was not very happy since there was not a lot of parking space, as in how can there not be enough parking space. So, there was a storm, or well an order, which was to take down the tent and all the preparations done for the bake sale regardless of the fact that it was being done for a good cause. i mean who, really who cares, whether the money from the bake sale was promised to some patient in need of it in ICU or for some kid’s education. Like we would rise above ourselves and do something for someone else. Anyways the tents were brought down and it looked like not like war, rather slaughter as Beowolf would say.

The golgapays were sold in the canteen, the brownies given off , Cake Alaska was shared. The students managed to scavange some sort of a bake sale after the slaughter, even though it was skimpily thronged in the small cafeteria. the charts were torn, the decorations were lying on the ground, the petals and flowers and leaves adorned the tarnished platform of City Campus rather than hands of fair maidens.

The storm lingers on. No further events would be held and no one should approach You-know-who regarding them. i wonder what he will do after reading this? ban events? impose martial Law? do something more unpredictable?

my point, the chairs and tables in the morning were wrongly left, but i dont think it was entirely the fault of the student bodies, the event was long and hectic so a little leeway could be granted. A stern warning should have done the job. But to take away an event which is the only event held in IBA which contributes to some form of charity by the students just seconds before its scheduled to start is inhumane, not only to those who spent hours and days preparing for it but to those who had hopes attached to the little, i mean very little that we had promised to contribute. Some people did manage to get money across to those whom they had promised. we dont break our word. we just dont.

[for those who arnt getting my twisted sarcasm, when i say we dont really care, i dont mean that we dont really care, its my twisted sarcasm which has taken a more twisted turn than usual]

BITS NEW COUNCIL

February 27, 2008

well, the voting took place today, without any prior notice. and the votes were casted.

The candidates were Rizwan Asghar and Ahmed bin Amjad for the Vice President post and Junaid Afghani and Satti from Hostel for the treasurer post.

The winners were Ahmed bin Amjad and Junaid Afghani.

Ahmed won by a margin of 27 votes , Rizwan’s Class BBA MIS 8 was not in full strength so he apparently lost 18 votes since the class was not informed of the voting beforehand. but even then it would have been a close call. Junaid won 189 to 75.

Congratulations to the new council. You have a big task ahead of you and very little time to prove yourself. Godspeed.

BITS ELECTION

February 20, 2008

Guess the election worm has bitten IBA too, although i wonder under which constitution these upcoming elections for BITS are being held to determine the VP. To remind you guys, the VP had resigned from his post as reported here and well i think it has almost been four months now, but news on campus is that next week elections for the post of VP will be held, though no notices are up. I assume there will be no campaigning either. it is a good sign that alteast something is happening, lets hope its for the best.

Democracy. or as the citibank’s country manager, Aftab Ahmed said “Meritocracy”
