Farewell dreams Farewell?

April 21, 2008

Well, the graduating class got funds for their own farewell. So nice. Lets see how else can the ruling body can destroy this dream. they really have to come up with some nice reason. not the old boring ones.

in other news, the board met today. meeting was really heated. no news on what happened inside, but dekhtay hain.

The student body budget problem

April 17, 2008

The student bodies went short on fund as the accounts department could not find the document which stated that the funds should be released to the student bodies in three installments 40-30-30, which was signed by the board. The old document was found, which stated that the student bodies funds would be released in two installments  50-50 . the second installment after external audit. So given this very new development, the student bodies only have 10% more funds with them.

Chances for farewell are bleak. very.

Seems like another conspiracy to halt events given that the elections were delayed, the societies were delayed, all events weren’t approved till very late, problems in every event were created, events were slaughtered and canceled at whim. but this is not a part of that. its slightly different.

the accounts dept has tried to contact Shahid mir to find a solution to the problem but he is unreachable to everyone. like even the accounts dept. Shahid mir also has not forwarded the copy of the constitution to the students nor has he oriented the student body members on how to conduct events. they have learnt on thier own and thru fines.

The no-event week & impeachment perogative

April 17, 2008

Shahid Mir has declared the next week as a no-event week in spirit of total boredom and lack of concern for his duties as a student counselor. I believe the student counselor should be helping students which he doesnt ever appear to do. the

  • Coming to campus for two days only and that too to teach one class.
  • having a do-it-next-monday attitude.
  • Making students wait for no reason outside his office for the approval
  • Biggest reason for not giving approval, his mood
  • Never has he done any sort of counseling in terms of higher education or job-fit
  • Is more towards  policing the students, (interogating BBA 2 section 2 exec over a missing projector for days and days, making them stand till more than five a day before exams)
  • for putting undue and unjust fines on students
  • not picking up anyone’s phone

i think given his core job description, which is not fulfilling, a motion to impeach him from the position of student counselor should be passed. all those in favor, say “aye”.

Another motion to define the job responsibilities to define the role of a student counselor shud be passed. the responsibilities shud be.

  1. availability to students atleast five days a week
  2. an hour for each student club should be alloted every week.
  3. should advise students on academics, sports, event management and other areas of personal development
  4. A lets-make-events-happen attitude rather than a no-event-for-next-week attitude

any more suggestions people

Event Slaughter

April 14, 2008

the all hyped up event of bake sale for which the CWS society had been working so hard for the past few weeks was slaughtered. yes, it was very bloody yellow and green spilt on the floor. The remains (read chairs and tables) left carelessly from the previous night’s event caused a lot of problems to the affluent class (read us) while we were parking our cars. The yellow and green tent at the back also took up a lot of space ( the contractor’s container and his office dont occupy space and hence dont take up parking space ).

the students had booked stalls and had committed donations to the needy and were ready to start off a smashing bake sale with a lot of people dressed up too. but You-Know-Who was not very happy since there was not a lot of parking space, as in how can there not be enough parking space. So, there was a storm, or well an order, which was to take down the tent and all the preparations done for the bake sale regardless of the fact that it was being done for a good cause. i mean who, really who cares, whether the money from the bake sale was promised to some patient in need of it in ICU or for some kid’s education. Like we would rise above ourselves and do something for someone else. Anyways the tents were brought down and it looked like not like war, rather slaughter as Beowolf would say.

The golgapays were sold in the canteen, the brownies given off , Cake Alaska was shared. The students managed to scavange some sort of a bake sale after the slaughter, even though it was skimpily thronged in the small cafeteria. the charts were torn, the decorations were lying on the ground, the petals and flowers and leaves adorned the tarnished platform of City Campus rather than hands of fair maidens.

The storm lingers on. No further events would be held and no one should approach You-know-who regarding them. i wonder what he will do after reading this? ban events? impose martial Law? do something more unpredictable?

my point, the chairs and tables in the morning were wrongly left, but i dont think it was entirely the fault of the student bodies, the event was long and hectic so a little leeway could be granted. A stern warning should have done the job. But to take away an event which is the only event held in IBA which contributes to some form of charity by the students just seconds before its scheduled to start is inhumane, not only to those who spent hours and days preparing for it but to those who had hopes attached to the little, i mean very little that we had promised to contribute. Some people did manage to get money across to those whom they had promised. we dont break our word. we just dont.

[for those who arnt getting my twisted sarcasm, when i say we dont really care, i dont mean that we dont really care, its my twisted sarcasm which has taken a more twisted turn than usual]

IBA’s recognition outside Pakistan

April 7, 2008

Now a lot of people might be saying that IBA is a world wide recognized institute but i am hearing reports that a lot of graduates from IBA outside Pakistan are having trouble finding jobs. They first have to sell the institute and then have to sell themselves. They didn’t know Pakistan either, but now the terrorist nation label has done wonders.

IBA should either open a chapter outside Pakistan or it should get affiliated with a foreign reputed university.

Canteen Kahani

April 4, 2008

The canteen keeps giving us substandard overpriced food with almost no variety what so ever. A group of students got pissed and well reported it the matter to the Administrator Mr. Mobin Khalili, that the food is substandard , is cause of various digestive tract infections, and the canteen is also keeping fake goods and selling them under the real name (the case of Maaz juice being sold as Maaza) . Mr. Khalili took the matter into his own hands and personally reprimanded the canteen administration. He also asked the students to report if the quality of food still remains low and if they think the food is unhygienic.  meaning  you are supposed to show proof to him if you think the food is unhygienic.

Another OFF

April 3, 2008

IBA is off on April 04, 2008 like all other private , govt and semi govt university and institute on account of the barsi of Sheikh Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Shaheed.

Twitter should be used to give updates like these.

RENOVATION HALTED

April 3, 2008

The class rooms on the executive side are being renovated only. No current expansion plans. A new Library and a new, much awaited, auditorium is in plans for being built. But the current renovation has been halted . The reason being that the absence of the Director.

I don’t get the point of halting renovation just because the Director is not present in the campus.

THE GOOD STANDING RULE

April 3, 2008

The good standing rule in the prospectus states

“Students are required to maintain discipline and good conduct & behavior during their studies at the IBA. A student shall be deemed to have lost good standing and consequently his/her name shall be dropped from the rolls of the Institute if his/her conduct and behavior is found objectionable from a disciplinary point of view.”

The rule is by far the most vague rules and is applied pretty widely. i know the statement is supposed to be general and all, but given the recent expulsions and suspension, a lot of students think that the Good Standing Rule should be more elaborative on what it encompasses.

Given the last few incidents the good standing rule encompasses:

1. Taking pictures inside the class without the teacher’s permission

2. Attempting to reschedule a class

3. Using abusive Language in class

4. Skidding in the car park

5. Cheating in examination.

6. Cell phone being present inside the examination hall

Another Suspension

April 3, 2008

Yawar Anwar got suspended for a week for using abusive language in class.

He will probably fail a lot of courses , but i guess the decision was fair. There is a decorum of the class and it should be maintained and the teacher should be respected at all times.

I think last year or the year before that, two students were suspended for a year on along the same grounds but slightly different circumstances
