‘Atank hi atank’ was one of the main coming attractions of the Talentopia all of last week. With the posters of Mirza and Bilal all over the Main Campus, the prospective audience was thrilled at the prospect of a direct assault by the “Intizamia”. Before I review the play, let me introduce to you the concept of the Intizamia.
The Intizamia came into being in the Fall 2006 semester. It comprises of a group of BBA-VIII people who believe it is their sole responsibility to establish peace and prosperity at the Main Campus. Moreover, they believe in Islamization, though none of their attempts at trying to wake up the sleeping conscience of any freshies has worked. This is in no way a disrespect to this gang. They (think they) are very funny and a lot of people (mostly their own lot) laugh at their posters.
Anyway, the Intizamia came up with a play for the Talentopia. Credit must be awarded where it is due and I will emphasize that most of that play was very instinctive and hilariously so. Bilal Azhar’s phone bell was the highlight of the show. Bilal was running a one-man show while attending calls as ‘Mustafa Kemal’. His memon, Karachiite tone was absolutely flawless. Mirza also did a very interesting Amir Liaquat and sang a ‘Naat’ to which Bilal responded by standing up in reverence. The crowd added their support by shouting out pro-Muttahida slogans.
Shakir, the guy from Azizabad, and his bicycle were again quite a hit. The naive Azizabadi role was well-executed by another talented Intizamia member. ‘Mustafa Kemal’ came to Shakir’s rescue and Auto, the defenc-ite, was beaten up horribly by the CDGK. Auto has probably learnt his lesson to not mess with street-smart people from Azizabad.
I believe the Intizamia play was a relief to most Iba-ians as the juniors are always dreading an attack from the Intizamia on their characters in some way. For a change, the Intizamia used the politics of the bigger scenario as their topic and did not talk about any IBA issues, whatsoever. All in all, it was good entertainment. We shall never hear the end of that phone ring tone till Bilal graduates.
