Dr. Ishrat Hussain formed two committees. Executive committee and an academic committee. Not sure what the executive committee will be doing yet, but the academic committee is going to look over the curriculum and subjects being taught and will decide how to make the courses better.
The members for the academic committee are
Dr. Mohammad Nishat -Economics and Finance
Dr Waseem Khan -Centre for Computer Studies
Dr. Mohammdad Iqbal -Management
Mr. Aman U Saiyed -Accounting
Dr. Hamen Das Holino -Economics and Finance
Ms. Yasmin Zafar -Marketing
Dr. Javed Hussain -Social Sciences
Ms. Tahira Maryam Jafri -Economics and Finance
No idea on how this committee would be functioning but it would really help if this committee could involve people from the industry and current students in the process as well as faculty members from internationally renowned universities.
Like for marketing. We could hold a string of sessions for covering the marketing course. A meeting comprising of Current Teachers, Advertising Agency Heads, Brand Activation Agency Head, Marketing Managers of MNC and Local companies, Media Buying House Heads, Students that have taken these courses and atleast two to five internationally renowned universities faculty members , they can attend using video conferencing.
The agenda to be discussed could involve defining the basics of marketing, knowledge required for each facet of marketing, the best way to include case studies, projects for each marketing course, broad outlines for the contents, identification of marketing resources that could be used, what should be learnt in internships and a mentorship program for the gifted marketing students.
what do you say?

There’s a rumor that something like this happened. not sure. but seems funny.
Q. What did the Controller examination say when the new Director of IBA asked if he knew the total area of the institute of Business Administration
A. He said, ” I don’t know. My job is to provide consul to students. (or something along those lines)”
something happened after that but i doubt if the incident is true so i ll restrain
but it could turn out to be a nice little joke
the correct answer is 80 acres. Its written in the prospectus.

There are reports circulating for quite sometime now that the placement office is itself putting on the MBA/BBA restrictions in the job ads. A call to an MNC recently resulted in the disparency coming to light when they denied that they asked specifically for MBAs.
The placement office is renowned for helping the fresh graduates of the institute of business administration to get into good places and is working as it is. Considering the number of students graduating its doing a fairly decent job . Still it does leave a lot required on its part.
The job seminars leave a lot required. The no effort on part of the placement office to educate the industry about the difference of the Four Year Bachelor program puts a lot of hurdles. The mail system although appears to be the way to go, where you have to sign up for the updates to get the mail could be developed into a website where the jobs can be posted and IBA graduates can benefit from them.
what do you guys think?

Every world class university has coaches for various sports. In IBA all we have are student initiatives at creating the team, training it, maintaining it, getting the kits, getting enrolled in sports events and winning or losing it. IBA has really good sports superstars which can perform beyond people’s imagination given the right training. If the players could concentrate more on sharpening their playing skill rather than the management part of it. I agree we can also create sports managers out of it. Some might say that the sports society managers are ideal, but they dont really do much. The sports society managers for the past three years have come up with the sports gala mostly which has failed to generate interest as expected. The football tournament held was good. Night matches are always fun. and well there could be a foosball tournament pretty soon. but the point is although these events tend to get the general interest up and clash with the class timings are held during university hours. There is talent in IBA. i am sure we can have people for regatta or golf or tennis or squash. If we have talent why are we failing in polishing it. why create just simple business people when you can create multi-talented business people.
Mr. Danishmand used to say that sports is not necessary. we always disagreed with him. sports teaches you teamwork, teaches you leadership, teaches you how to come back from a defeat, teaches you persistence, teaches you how to develop strategies against competition on run-time. if its handled professionally.
My solution: Hire sports coaches. get people involved in Sports. be it rowing, golf, tennis, squash, cricket, football, foosball and help them. adjust attendences for them allow them to compete in international tournaments, represent both the country and the university when they can. We need to push people up. need to have people good in sports.
Design a sports complex or atleast a gym to get people into shape. Hire instructors, develop teams and let them win matches. and inform the students where IBA plays so students can be there to support the team.
what do you guys say?

LET ME REMIND PEOPLE OVER HERE. THE FACULTY EVALUATION IS TO STATE WHAT HAPPENS IN CLASS, HOW CAN THE TEACHER DO A BETTER JOB AND WHAT IS THE TEACHER DOING WRONG. THIS IS BY NO MEANS A PLACE TO INSULT THE TEACHER. KINDLY REFRAIN FROM SUCH REMARKS IN THE FACULTY EVALUATION.
ITS SUPPOSED TO BE A SUBJECTIVE EVALUATION OF THE TEACHER TO WORK IN COHERENCE WITH THE OBJECTIVE NUMBER GRADING THAT THE STUDENTS DONT TAKE SERIOUSLY.
USE THIS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. PRAISE TEACHERS WHO ACTUALLY ARE INTERESTED IN TEACHING YOU AND ARE NOT JUST READING OUT OF A BOOK. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD YOU CAN DO THAT ON YOUR OWN. A TEACHER IS SUPPOSED TO TEACH YOU BEYOND THE BOOK. THE BOOK IS JUST A REFERENCE TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND CONCEPTS.

well, every place has really really stupid rules. and well IBA’s no exception. so here are a few
1. no sitting on the cars of the faculty, they’ll break.
2. you cant have a make up exam even if you are close to dying, its a policy. (the new prospectus says that there wil be no make up examinations in any case, which i guess covers this)
3. you have to take the first internship IBA offers, even if it’s really really bad, or go find one yourself.
4. to do a bake sale, you need to have permission for the tent too.
5. you cant bring in the free newspaper in to the library. ( i am pretty sure the librarian made it up, so he doesnt have to clean up the extra newspapers)

this blog has not died nor has IBA fixed all of its problems. the lack of posts could be attributed to stupid DSL connection, lack of complete information on certain reports, lazyness, KESC, final examinations and project submissions.
will put up a few posts soon regarding things that happened during the final examination
